Columbus, OH Tuesday June 16th
Well, we all woke up on time and ready to go. We were peacefully sleeping in the van when a loud noise awoke us... and captain byron exclaiming, did we just get a flat?
yesssss we did. so we went to work getting the spare tire on.
but then we left and the spare popped...
luckily we were only 30 minutes from where my mom lives in KY so we called her to bring us another tire. it was really humid and boring... but we were just lucky it didnt rain.
Kelley sleeping.
My mom and Paul (the super hero) finally showed up with the new tire... Paul helped us change it and we were on our way.
Unfortunately that tire wasn't the right size, so we still had to go get yet another tire put on... but at least we didnt have to get towed anywhere. We made it to the nearest place- a Walmart- just as it began to pour down rain.
They told us it would be 45 Minutes to and hour... which turned in to 2 hours somehow. We talked to the venue and realized at that point we werent going to make it to the show in time. It was like a knife in the stomach! We've never missed a show before except when Nikki had her bike wreck on her birthday (as the song "DUI or DIE" tells). But that was definitely different.
We had to keep on towards Columbus though, we had several friends driving from other cities and didn't want to leave them hanging. Plus, we had to meet Elvis Perkins and the Dearland boys!
We showed up in time to catch the last of their set and said our hello's. We stayed with our new friend Ian... who's apparently an excellent bowler.
and has a pink couch! and is friends with cincinnati Tim.
He also has a great vinyl collection. We listened to the Ventures in honor of Bob Bogle, who died that day.
We got a great nights sleep and got to go check out some really great vintage stores the next morning.
Pittsburg, Pa Wednesday June 17th
Got to the venue 3 hours early (we were overcompensating to make sure there was no way we could miss this show). With nothing else to do, we checked out a vintage toy store and cool music store next to the venue, and then decided to walk 15 blocks to the next venue.
While we were shopping it started storming like crazy. We all bought rain coats and decided to make a run for it. Bad mistake. Within a half a block we were all soaked from head to toe. and we still had 14 blocks to go.
We stopped in to Tom's Diner to get something to eat. Suzanne Vega wasn't there...
I went in the bathroom and poured an inch of water out of my shoe!
There were flash floods and tornadoes and hail and buckets of water everywhere. Pittsburg was not orange, not red, but PINK on the dopplar radar.
We finally made it back to the venue and played a fun show to a calm but receptive crowd.
Got to hang out with Elvis and crew a bit more. Very nice guys.
Baltimore Maryland Thursday June 18th
Ate at an old fashioned type of diner... The waitresses were pretty mean to us. I think they thought we werent going to tip, seeing as we looked like a buncha ruffians.
Baltimore was fun. The crowd was much more awake and ready to go than the previous night. Baltimore brought it out!!!
This was our last show with Elvis and boys... and we were so sad, we had come to be quite fond of them in the short amount of time we had known them, and it truly was a long and sad goodbye.
Bristol, Virginia/Tennessee Friday June 19
I didnt get any pictures of Bristol, but it was pretty cool. We played an outdoor stage, and we got to play right on the TN/VA state line, so kelley was in tennessee, nikki was in virginia, and lin and I were in both states at once while we played!
Unfortunately, Nikki had given Lin, Byron, and I a cold that she had had for a few days, so this day was pretty hard with only one person up to full health. (good job kelley!)
I did see this weird drink in the bar on the street...
Their slogan is "dont stress, get numb" ????????????????
Pittsborough, NC Saturday June 20th
Kelley Jump Roping... Maybe thats why she didnt get sick?
The Mountain aid festival was really fun. we got to jump in sprinklers and we bought a bunch of Water Buffalo Teeth, and feathers and horse hair and medicine bags.
It was 100 degrees when we played, but we made it through! As soon as we finished we had to jump in the car and drive 3 hours to Asheville for our show that night.
Asheville NC (same day)
I didnt take many pictures in asheville... but it was SO CRAZy fun! even though i was sick... the audience was wonderful and we had a rockin dance party with them.
